Jumbo’s Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Hotdish

hotdish

Some call it casserole, some call it a throw-together.  In the Northland, where we’re from, we call them Hotdish.  In Minnesota, the Dakotas, Wisconsin and Iowa, you can find these delectable dishes in small-town church basements, homes, and even some high-end restaurants.  Each one contains a combination of some of your favorite items, and the Jumbo’s Tater Tot Hotdish is no exception.  Make it for your family tonight, and your family will have a new favorite.

What you’ll need:

1 – 14 oz container Jumbo’s Original or Jalapeno Sloppy Joe Sauce

1 – 1.5 lbs lean ground beef

(Optional) ¼ Cup Chopped onion

1 bag (32 oz) Ore-Ida Tater Tots

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (8 oz)

How to make it:

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray 9”X 13” glass baking dish with cooking spray
  2. In a medium skillet, cook beef and onion over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until brown. Drain meet and return to skillet. Pour in Jumbo’s Original or Jalapeno Sloppy Joe Sauce
  3. Place half of the tater tots in a single layer in the bottom of the baking dish. Pour Sloppy Joe Mixture on top. Top with 1 coup of cheddar cheese, then remaining tater tots, then remaining 1 cup of cheese.

Jumbo’s Sloppy Grinder

Some call it a sub.  Folks in certain parts call it a hero, and others call it a po’boy.  Up here in North Dakota, where Jumbo’s is from, we call this delectable sandwich a grinder.  Here’s what you’ll need: first, you will want a long loaf of bread, then a 14 oz. jar of Jumbo’s Original or Jalapeno Sloppy Joe Sauce.  Next, your favorite cheese,  and additional meats like turkey, ham or salami (or heck, ALL of them!).  Sound good so far?  Finally, if you like, add in: lettuce, tomato, mayo or other spreads, and you have every option that you need to make your grinder your very own.

Below is a step-by-step guide so that you can see the way we do it for our family-

Ingredients:

  • One loaf of French bread
  • 1 – 1.5 lbs. ground beef
  • A 14 oz. jar of Jumbo’s Original or Jumbo’s Jalapeno Sloppy Joe Sauce
  • One 16 oz. package of shredded mild cheddar cheese (this is our personal choice, you can use American, Provolone, Pepper Jack or another cheese of your choice)

Optional Ingredients:

  • Sliced turkey, ham, or salami (or if you like, all three!)
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • 1/4 c Finely chopped onions
  • Mayonnaise, Miracle Whip or other dressing of your choice

Directions:

  • First, in a medium pan, saute ground beef.  Add in chopped onions if desired
  • Once meat is browned, drain excess fat.  Reduce heat and pour in Jumbo’s Original or Jalapeno Sloppy Joe Sauce.  Simmer this mixture until the sauce bubbles through.  Reduce heat to keep the mixture warm
  • Next, grab your loaf of French Bread.  Slice bread lengthwise, being careful not to go entirely through the loaf
  • Optional – spread dressing on top and bottom half of your loaf
  • Optional – place the sliced meat on the bottom loaf of your bread, to the amount desired
  • Scoop Jumbo’s Original or Jalapeno Sloppy Joe mixture onto your loaf, and spread evenly
  • Add your cheese
  • Optional – Top with shredded lettuce and tomato slices

From here, you can section your creation into the appropriate size portions for your family members.  Set them on a plate, and get ready to enjoy! Zack Kassian Womens Jersey
